Job Summary:
Fitters at McWhirter Steel are responsible for providing “layout” on all of McWhirter Steel’s fabrications.  They are also responsible for building miscellaneous fabrications from raw material till complete.

Major Duties:

• Fabricating miscellaneous steel fabrications like trash gates, roof access platforms, handrail etc.
• Layout of Structural fabrications
• Operating an Overhead Crane
• Operating a Torch
• Stick Welding
• Wire Welding
• Reading fabrication drawings

 
Qualifications:
To become a fitter at McWhirter Steel, prospects:

• Must go through at least 3 months of McWhirter Steel’s Fitter’s apprenticeship and or have at least 4 years of structural steel fitting experience
• Must have Welding Experience
• Must have in-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting fabrication drawings
• Must have in-depth knowledge of reading and interpreting erection drawings
• Must have experience fabricating miscellaneous steel such as handrail, roof access platforms etc.
• Should be AWS Certified
